GTA 6 – here’s what we know we know as we step into 2023

gta 6 - everything we know

GTA 6, will it ever get here? At least we have some more information this year.

The latest installment in the series, GTA 5, was released in 2013 and has been a huge success. It sold millions of copies and winning numerous awards. It’s broken revenue records and has been Rockstar Games’ biggest cash cow – much bigger than they ever expected it to be. The unprecedented success also meant that players didn’t get a new edition of the game for an entire decade!

There has been much speculation about the next game in the series, GTA 6. But until earlier this year, Rockstar Games did not officially announce ANY plans for a new game.

However, rumors and leaks about the game have been circulating online, leading many fans to speculate about what the game might be like. In February this year, Rockstar games confirmed that “active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway“, cunningly bundled as a note along with a routine GTA 5 Community Update.

The Big Leak

As many of you know, over 90 videos and screenshots were leaked from a test build of GTA 6 a few weeks ago. The leak also included source code and assets.

We will not share leaked content in this post but will confirm what we have learned through them. Leaks like this end up counterproductive to the gaming community, where the eventual game release ends up delayed.

One of the biggest rumors about GTA 6 is that it will be set in Vice City, a fictional city based on Miami, Florida. This is a return to the setting of GTA: Vice City, which was released in 2002 and was set in the 1980s. And the leaks do indicate a return to Miami! But it’s unclear what time it will be set in. In total there will be three explorable cities, rumoured to have been scaled back from a bigger continent.

The leaks also point towards a female protagonist, which would be a first for the GTA series. Overall the leaks indicate 4 playable protagonists.

Fan Art in anticipation.

In terms of gameplay, fans are hoping that GTA 6 will build on the success of GTA 5 by adding new features and improving on existing ones. Some possibilities that have been discussed include a larger and more detailed open world, more varied missions and side quests, and new weapons and vehicles.

The leaks have pointed at dialogue options just like in Red Dead Redemption 2. Similarly characters will be able to carry rifles on their back as well as the introduction of a new weapon wheel. There are some references to riding, but no media to back that.

In addition, NPCs can be tied up with a ziptie according to the leaked media. RPG elements have also been indicated, like hunger, leveling up and animal taming. As expected robberies will be a big part of the game, and NPCs are expected to offer a much wider range of interactions in these situations.

Interiors and car modeling are both also being taken up a level with much more options available.

GTA Latest does not reguarly post about GTA 6 due to the plethora of false rumours over the years. But when firmer information like the above is confirmed, we will share more.
